How does piracy feel?: An experiment

… we didn’t want to pass up the unique opportunity of holding a mirror in front of them and showing them what piracy can do to game developers. So, as players spend a few hours playing and growing their own game dev company, they will start to see the following message, styled like any other in-game message:

'Boss, it seems that while many players play our new game, they steal it by downloading a cracked version rather than buying it legally.'

Slowly their in-game funds dwindle, and new games they create have a high chance to be pirated until their virtual game development company goes bankrupt.

The reactions of the people who downloaded the cracked version of the game are hilarious.

Why are there so many people that pirate? It ruins me!

What happens when pirates play a game development simulator and then go bankrupt because of piracy?

TimeSplitters Rewind

Crytek is allowing a group of 25 fans to create a game based on the best of the TimeSplitters franchise. The game is currently slated for PC using CryEngine 3 (surprise!).

It's a very cool idea to involve fans but I have to wonder why Crytek bothered to buy Free Radical if they weren't interested in the Timespliiters franchise. I suppose a game from loving fans is better than having a game without the previous FRD team at the helm.
