Not Just Star Wars

A few interesting observations from the Disney acquisition of Lucasfilm.

Together Again

Star Wars Episode 7 will be the first film to bear the new "Disney - Lucasfilm" moniker. A similar title adorned Pixar films following their acquisition by Disney. The beauty in all of this is that now Lucasfilm and Pixar (once upon a time a division of Lucasfilm) are together again. Pointless but poetic nonetheless.

No Disney Indy... Yet

Disney will not be involved in the upcoming Indiana Jones sequel as the franchise is currently tied up in previous contracts with Paramount.

Star Wars & More

Another thing worth noting is that Lucasfilm contains a number of subsidiaries including LucasArts (video games) and Industrial Light & Magic (visual effects). Disney owns all of those now.

All of those amazing adventure games from LucasArts' hey-day – Disney properties from this day forward. Is it possible that one day we could see Monkey Island on the big screen?

New Star Wars Film Every 2-3 Years

From the press release:

In 2015, we're planning to release Star Wars Episode 7 – the first feature film under the "Disney-Lucasfilm" brand. That will be followed by Episodes 8 and 9 – and our long term plan is to release a new Star Wars feature film every two to three years.

Every two to three years? Uh oh.
