Bad Dudes 2 Fights A Kickstarter Backlash

Hello again Kickstarter. Its been–well, it hasn't been that long. Who wants my money today? This month Pinstripe Games wants $80,000 to make a sequel to the NES-era ninja-beatdown-simulator. Pinstripe who? Well, you've probably never heard of them because they are new. Very new. (They haven't shipped a game yet.) In March, they could be seen raising $1,000 to build another brawler: Jesh. ClankWorks

Another day, another Kickstarter project. After Tim Schafer's masterful conquering of Kickstarter, it seems everyone has something that needs funding on the crowd-sourcing site. Today we hear from author Neal Stephenson who thinks sword fighting games suck. He wants to change that. The cheeky video also has a nice surprise cameo.

History Is Being Written

In an update from the crew behind the Elevation Dock:

This was the fastest start ever for a Kickstarter project, hitting our funding goal in 8 hours and $168k in 24 hours, more than double any previous project had ever hit. On Tuesday, this project became the most funded project on Kickstarter ever and yesterday it became the first to hit $1million. Then video game maker Double Fine launched Wednesday and it beat our newly minted funding record in less than a day and hit the $1m mark just hours after us! Amazing.

Kickstarter's recap is here.

People use the term disruption pretty loosely, but crowd-funding is doing it. Goodbye middlemen, sayonara to the massive traditional barriers to entry... Hello bootstrapped projects like this, made without compromise, and that would otherwise never see the light of day.

Double Fine Adventures New Territory

Double Fine Productions has decided to crowd-source funding for their newest project, which happens to be a reunion of the genre's biggest names. People seem to be excited. I'm one of those people.

Also, of note: Notch, Steven Dengler and Tim Schafer have a discussion on Twitter. "Let's make Psychonauts 2 happen." Yes, please.

I think its time for a group hug.
